In the heart of a scorching desert, a proud civilization struggles under the yoke of an empire, its towering pyramids and sprawling cities a testament to both its might and resilience. Here, the sun and moon are revered as creator gods, their celestial gaze believed to pierce through the veil of mortal affairs. The people, though worn by war, remain unbroken, their spirit as indomitable as the ancient walls that guard their sacred lands.

To the east, the waves tell a different tale. Island dwellers navigate treacherous seas, their mastery over the waters unrivaled. Yet, beneath their seafaring prowess lies a deep spirituality, rooted in the reverence of the ancestors and ancient myths. Legends of a great dragon that once purged the world with fire are woven into the fabric of their culture, symbolizing the perpetual cycle of destruction and rebirth that defines their existence.

In the shadows of towering stone castles, the remnants of a once-mighty empire bear witness to the price of unquenchable ambition. The great city, a labyrinth of stone and secrets, holds the memories of a thousand years of dominion, now threatened by the very forces it once reigned over.

As these nations grapple with their fate, ancient evils, dormant for millennia, stir once again in the dark corners of the world. Whispers of forgotten powers and hidden threats permeate the air, hinting at a danger far greater than the wars that rage under the sun. In the shadows, something ancient and malevolent awakens, its eyes set on a world already teetering on the brink of despair.

In Uldor, every blade drawn, every alliance forged, and every secret uncovered could tip the balance in this precarious world. Your journey begins here, in a land where the line between hero and villain is blurred by the fog of war, and the path to redemption, or ruin, lies in your hands. Welcome, brave soul, to a world where darkness lurks in every corner, and the battle for survival is just the beginning.

<figure><img src="/files/J77SDZI7eznGyMUMnlHF" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lyrina</p></figcaption></figure>

Lyrina was born in the quiet forest town of Elmsworth to Thalos, a steadfast blacksmith, and Marena, a devoted herbalist. Their teachings molded her into a warrior with both a fierce sense of justice and a compassionate heart. From a young age, she demonstrated exceptional skill with a blade and a sharp intellect that set her apart, eventually earning her a place among the Furies, the empire’s elite peacekeepers.

As a Furie, Lyrina rose swiftly through the ranks, embodying the ideals of honor and loyalty. However, her dedication to truth led her to uncover corruption within the empire’s highest echelons—a discovery that would ultimately lead to her expulsion from the order she loved.

Returning to Elmsworth, Lyrina found herself without the title that once defined her. Yet, she remained undeterred. Embracing her role as a protector of her community, she honed her archery and stealth, defending her people from threats both human and beastly. Tales of her valor spread, painting her not as a fallen Furie, but as a relentless guardian who stood by her convictions.

Even in exile, Lyrina’s legacy as a warrior who upholds justice shines brightly, proving that true honor is not bestowed by title but earned through unwavering resolve.

# Empire of Zetan

<figure><img src="/files/72wbW8azH1z6jnnkJrpt" alt=""><figcaption><p>Zetan</p></figcaption></figure>

The Empire of Zetan ruled over Uldor for more than 1,000 years. The empire was a tapestry of peoples and cultures that over time absorbed the once proud nations of Kilan, Karg, and Tamana. At its peak, the empire stood against all beasts, monsters, and bandits that would dare threaten its people.

A legend known to all within Zetan was that of the first Guardian. It was said that long ago, the town of Zetae was plagued by a fierce clan of warriors. One day a traveler from the frozen wasteland to the north wandered into their town. Weak and with no memory of his past, the people of Zetae took him in and showed him kindness. After he recovered, he became a part of their community. When a group of ten clansmen returned, he alone stood his ground. Determined to set an example, the clansmen charged, but the man grabbed his axe and skillfully killed them all. His bravery and fighting prowess inspired the townspeople to fight back. The next time the town was visited, the clan faced an army. Neighboring towns heard the tale of this legendary guardian of the people and began to have hope. Surrounding towns banded together led by this unknown warrior and fought back against the clan's attacks, eventually defeating them. And thus began the rise of Zetan.

The people of Zetan built an immense city of stone castles and towers, determined to never again submit to foreign attackers. They were resolute in their quest for domination and the expansion of their great empire, which grew in size and might with each passing year.

To further ensure the safety of their people, Zetan established and trained the Guardians, a highly trained fighting force sent throughout the lands to crush any enemy that would threaten the empire. But as the empire faced more internal threats, the Furies were established to maintain peace and order within its borders.

Such is the origin of Zetan, a city that was once a mighty empire, with a history steeped in legend and valor.

# Isles of Kilan

<figure><img src="/files/XeIzL7R85DWzD2DF7qZH" alt=""><figcaption><p>Kilan</p></figcaption></figure>

In the eastern seas lies the majestic island nation of Kilan, a land of treacherous waters, fierce warriors, and ancient mysticism. The Killanese are a seafaring people, their ships the envy of all who see them. Swifter than the wind and sleek as a dolphin, they glide through the waves with ease, able to strike their foes with lightning-fast attacks before disappearing into the mist. But the true wealth of Kilan lies in their volcanic mines, where the rarest of gems can be found.

The Killanese are a deeply spiritual people who revere their ancestors as deities. According to their ancient religion, the spirits of the dead ascend to higher planes, with the most honorable and just among them achieving greater importance. The Killanese believe that their ancestors watch over them, protecting them from harm and guiding them in times of need. They speak to their ancestors, carrying their possessions as idols and building shrines in their honor, where they go to pray and pay their respects.

Yet, Kilan is not without its dangers. Legend has it that every few thousand years, a great dragon awakens from the depths of the volcano, purging the world with fire. This tale is often told to children, who dream of becoming a great warrior to slay the dragon, but as they grow older, they come to realize it is just a myth. The true threats of Kilan lie in the lost temples of the jungle, remnants of ancient wars that still hold secrets and dangers for those brave enough to explore them.

In the days of old, Kilan was ruled by a mighty Khan, and at the heart of the island lies a great lake surrounded by a tropical jungle, home to tigers and other fearsome beasts. The jungles of Kilan are dotted with temples and shrines, vestiges of a time long past, and the Killanese have learned to navigate these treacherous lands with the skill of a seasoned warrior. The Killanese are generally suspicious of outsiders, as they often act without honor. Even when the people of Kilan fight, they still have a code.

So it is that Kilan stands, a land of beauty and danger, of tradition and myth, a place where the sea meets the sky, and the line between reality and legend blurs.

# Karg

<figure><img src="/files/ABqt0o2wSPVqNIpON7Rt" alt=""><figcaption><p>Karg</p></figcaption></figure>

In the heart of the scorching desert lies the proud and ancient civilization of Karg, home to the magnificent Great Pyramid, a towering structure that has withstood countless assaults from both monsters and invaders. The city-state is surrounded by smaller desert towns and nomadic peoples who view themselves as part of Karg and fiercely defend their home from outsiders. The unforgiving desert is plagued by deadly scorpions, sandstorms, and savage raiders, but Karg remains protected by a towering wall to the north and formidable mountains to the west, where intrepid traders brave the perils of mining for precious metals and uncover the treasures of long-forgotten civilizations.

The Great Pyramid, a massive edifice that serves as a thriving city in its own right, was constructed by the people of Mareth, a verdant city to the southeast, as a refuge from the dragons that once roamed the skies. Today, it is home to countless shops and governing authorities.

Karg has endured many trials over the years, from repelling the attacks of Zetan from the north to fighting off an assault from Kilan from the south, which led to the capture of the Oasis of Mareth. Karg managed to retake the city, but the diversion allowed Zetan to breach their defenses and take control, forcing Karg to submit to their rule and become part of the empire.

The people of Karg hold a deep reverence for the sun and moon, whom they believe are the creator gods, constantly watching over them. Some believers even act as though the sun and moon can physically see them and conduct their affairs in the shade to avoid detection. The Great Pyramid was designed to cast as little shadow as possible to keep the people around it safe.

Karg had a long-standing friendship with Tamana, a fishing city to the east that was tragically destroyed by the ruthless Zetan Empire, leaving many of its people dead or forced to flee to Karg for refuge. Despite the hardships they have faced, the people of Karg remain proud and unbroken, determined to protect their land and their people from any who would threaten them.

# The Fall of Draga

For over 1,000 years the Zetan Empire has stood steadfast, protecting its citizens from the many threats that plague the lands. The expanded empire’s reach grew to cover most of Uldor, but fractures began to emerge as they struggled to maintain order and offer protection to such large and diverse lands. Even still, the empire was holding, continually defeating evil as it reared its ugly head. Yet none could have foreseen the worst threat of all coming from within, from none other than the emperor himself.

The aging Emperor Draga the seventh had become obsessed with holding onto the power that his empire was slowly losing, believing a splintered empire would fall to the dark forces that inhabit this world. Fearing what would happen to the empire after his death, he desperately sought to preserve his life so that he may ensure his legacy and the permanence of the empire. He sent thousands of his Guardians around the world of Uldor to find a legendary artifact known as the Infinarium, a tome said to hold the secrets of life and death itself. Some legends said that whoever reads from the book shall never die.\
\
After a decade of searching, the Guardians found the tome and delivered it to the emperor. Upon opening the tome, however, Draga discovered it was written in an unknown language. The emperor summoned the most learned scholars to study the tome, but none recognized the language and thus were unable to decipher its texts. Undeterred, Draga turned to mystics and cultists in order to unlock the book’s secrets.\
\
So great was his obsession that the empire’s affairs were left entirely to the Council of Elders, while Draga himself became more and more isolated with the occult and the arcane. One day, without warning, the emperor emerged from his chambers. His skin, having been devoid from light’s touch for so long, had become gaunt and turned a pale grey. His hair, what was left of it, was spindly and black, reaching down to his shoulders.\
\
Draga — this Draga — slowly shambled outside the palace to address a growing crowd who were eager to hear from the emperor. That curiosity, however, quickly turned into panic as Draga produced the Infinarium and began to speak.\
\
“The time has stripped away all that which is unimportant. What remains is Nycros, the God of Life and Death. You all shall serve me in this life and in the death to come — Nycros is *forever*.”

If the crowd hadn’t been so transfixed on Draga — now Nycros’ — words, they may have more quickly noticed the dark figures slowly making their way out from the palace. The mystics and cultists that had helped Draga unlock the secrets of the Infinarium had become twisted abominations, they themselves becoming corrupted by the darkness held within the accursed artifact. By the time the crowd had noticed, the ghastly men struck, killing many within the crowd before most could even react.\
\
Those that were slain would find no peace, however, as their lifeless bodies would slowly climb to their feet. The remaining crowd fled in hysteria, while Nycros led his ever-growing army to the chamber housing the elders. As the horde burst through the chamber doors, the elders had but moments to spare. The Furies guarding the Hall of Elders leaped into action, protecting the elders from Nycros and his undead forces.\
\
In the aftermath of the battle, dozens lay dead or dying. The Furies managed to slay the attackers, as well as Nycros himself. As the Furies and Council members struggled to understand what had just transpired, the corpse of Nycros suddenly began moving, lifting itself from the ground until it was standing upright. The ghoulish figure stared at the elders with a cold, emotionless expression, then proclaimed: “Nycros is forever!” but before he was able to attack, one of the Furies decapitated him, causing his body to once again slump to the ground.\
\
Nycros’ body and head were placed upon a funeral pyre, along with the Infinarium and the dozens of undead bodies. After the final embers had burned, however, Nycros’ body and the Infinarium each remained. Furies placed the emperor’s body in a golden tomb, reserved for the bodies of royalty. Guardians were dispatched to hide the tomb and the Infinarium at opposits ends of Uldor, hopefully removing the threat to the empire for good.

The people of Zetan remained unaware of what truly transpired. It was decided by the Council of Elders to instead tell the people the emperor was slain by a dark creature that invaded the palace. The emperor’s younger brother and next in line to the throne, Drokal, was summoned to the capital. Immediately skeptical of the story told to him by the Council of Elders, he suspected his brother was assassinated by the Furies that were entrusted to keep him safe. Worried of future conspiracies, and not knowing who to trust, Drokal orders both Furies and Guardians to be immediately disbanded. His royal decree was dispatched to every city and town, removing authority and title of all Furies and Guardians.\
\
Guardians — the protectors of the people, and Furies — the keepers of the peace, had been removed from the roles for the first time since their founding. This left trained warriors scattered throughout the empire and it’s outskirts with no employ or purpose. Eager to put their talents to good use, some went on quests to slay beasts and monsters, as they were once charged to do. Others traveled the world, helping others in need. Some became mercenaries, warriors for hire. Some even took on trades and established themselves in their local communities.

Meanwhile, Emperor Drokal formed a new royal guard, the Red Legion, which was designed to fill the roles of the Guardians and Furies. Unfortunately for the Zetani people, the Legion would prove to be a poor substitute. The outer towns and villages could no longer count on the empire to protect them from bandits and beasts. Some villages hired mercenaries or relied on traveling heroes to help them. Even the larger cities began experiencing problems. The once well-maintained order had begun to wane and the era of peace and stability shifted to one of discourse, mistrust, and anger. Drokal’s Red Legion was sent to one city on the verge of riots, Tamana, to set an example. The harsh treatment of the people there sent shockwaves throughout Zetan, but the effect was likely not what Drokal had hoped for.\
\
A rebellion was brewing.

# Fractures of The Empire

<figure><img src="/files/vjOeMYF6kNBqk2obyeue" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Merely four years into the reign of Emperor Drokal, fractures began to form throughout the Zetani Empire. With the removal of the Guardians and Furies, the people found themselves unprotected and began to doubt the empire’s ability to keep them safe. Despite Drokal’s efforts to establish the Red Legion to fulfill the duties once held by the Guardians and Furies, the people quickly realized that the inexperienced Legion was a poor substitute for the former protectors.

The great leviathan that had plagued the port city of Tamana for years had now become an ever increasing menace, attacking regularly and now with near impunity. Despite repeated reassurances from the empire, the Red Legion continued to prove no match for the Great Leviathan and they were unable to repeal the beast from Tamana’s shores.

Feeling abandoned, the people of Tamana chose to deal with the beast themselves. Governor Braem of Tamana commissioned a strategic fighting force of their own in an effort to repel the beast from their beloved city. Surprisingly, this fighting force proved to be quite capable. The newly formed militia swiftly defeated the Leviathan on their first encounter, repelling the beast from their home. Word of their success spread quickly, like a brush fire, to the surrounding cities and villages, and soon others began asking for their help over that of the Red Legion.

When word of the new militia’s accomplishments and newfound fame reached the empire, Emperor Drokal became furious. Increasingly paranoid, the Emperor — by imperial decree — ordered all private armies to be disbanded immediately, attempting to put an end to what he saw as a threat to his supreme authority. Governor Braem defiantly refused to obey this decree, declaring that the will of his people transcends even the strength of the empire. Braem’s refusal to uphold this decree sealed his fate. Upon learning of Braem’s refusal to uphold his decree, Drokal ordered the Red Legion to depart for Tamana immediately. Braem was labeled proditor supremus ordo — traitor of the highest order, a crime punishable by death. The Red Legion was commanded by the emperor to dismantle the Tamana militia by any means necessary and to take Governor Braem into custody for his crimes against the empire.

The Red Legion — led by Commander Garrat — marched south toward the city of Tamana, determined to bring Braem and his militia to heel. The Governor knew the empire would not allow his insolence to go unpunished, thus he sent Tamanan scouts to venture far beyond the city, keeping a vigilant watch for any soldiers.

Scouts, spotting soldiers to the north, informed Braem of their advancement toward the city. Mustering his militia, Braem ordered the city to be fortified as much as possible during the little time they had left and pleaded with his people to take up arms in defense against the Red Legion’s might.

Upon arrival, Commander Garrat ordered the militia to lay down their arms, and for Governor Braem to surrender the city immediately. Steadfast and defiant, the Governor refused Garrat’s order, instead instructing his archers to nock their arrows and prepare to fire on his command. Garrat, who was far more inclined to use force rather than diplomacy, ordered the Legion to enter the city. Braem signaled his archers who let lose a hail of arrows, striking several of the Legion’s soldiers, killing them. Sword fighting broke out as the two forces clashed, with the militia proving their worth as Red Legion soldier after soldier fell to their blades.

Unable to break through the militia’s defenses, and with growing casualties on the Legion’s side, Garrat signaled his army to fall back. Braem, thinking the Red Legion to be in retreat, yelled out in triumph as the militia cheered. Unfortunately for Tamana, the Red Legion would not be retreating that day. Garrat’s soldiers took to the catapults that had been painstakingly positioned around the city and loaded them with their deadly ammunition. With a swift motion of his hand, the soldiers fire the catapults, raining massive stones over the city.

With the city in ruins and the militia all but broken, Garrat ordered his soldiers to put down any remaining fighters. As Garrat’s army poured into the city, several of the Tamanan townspeople took up arms out of fear. Garrat, unwilling to halt his advance, ordered the townspeople to be killed and they were brutally slaughtered. Governor Braem’s body was discovered soon after, having been buried in rubble during the catapult onslaught. With the city still burning, Garrat ordered the Legion to depart and return to Zetan, their mission accomplished. Upon their return, Garrat informed Emperor Drokal of the Red Legion’s success over the Tamanan militia. Drokal was displeased. He had hoped the matter would have been solved without bloodshed, but the Tamana siege would serve as a warning to any other town or village that hoped to defy his authority.

After the fighting was over, more than half of Tamana perished and the city was consumed in flames. When fleeing refugees reached the city of Karg, the High Council convened to discuss their plight. Having formed four years ago in response to the expulsion of their former governor by none other than Drokal himself, the High Council remained the ruling body of the powerful desert city. The council decided not only to allow the refugees sanctuary but also to declare independence from the empire. This move sent shockwaves throughout the empire. With independence came a new government for Karg, as the council appointed Commander Meloch to be head of state.

Far in the east, the Kilan Isles decided to take advantage of this situation. The cities on the remote island had long sought their independence from the empire, and with the current struggles to the west, it was decided now was the perfect time to make their move. Seishin, who had served as governor of Kilan for 12 years, gave herself the ancient title of Khan and declared the Kilan Isles its own sovereign kingdom.

For the first time in over a thousand years, the empire of Zetan had fractured and powerful factions had formed.

In Uldor's PvP Arena, players can fight 1v1, 3v3, and 5v5 in single games or tournaments where winning teams face off against other winning teams to determine a final winner of the tournament.

Players may compete in skirmishes or wager in paid tournaments.

The arena will also feature additional play modes, including NPC fighters and objectives that require player communication and strategy to prevail.

The arena is a great way to hone your fighting skills and rise the leaderboard as you defeat enemy players

# Faction Battles

{% endembed %}

Players can choose to join a faction and participate in large scale PvP battles. Factions compete over territory, which they defend by building and manning sentry posts and patrolling their territory. Players can organize assaults to attack sentry posts held by opposing factions to claim additional territory.

When your faction successfully captures territory, you are able to build up your own defenses with walls, fortifications, and summon NPCs to man them in order to protect your territory from rival factions. You can also help your faction by contributing gear, tokens, or resources (wood, metals, etc.) used for building defenses and siege weapons.

The faction zones are part of the open-world and are the only open PvP area. Players who enter the faction zones may be killed by players of enemy factions, but outside of the faction zones players are free to roam the lands without fear of attack from other players.

The faction zones are a dynamic aspect of the world, with some areas unlocking content for the faction holding it. Once your defenses have reached a certain level, a zone is considered safe to NPCs who may begin to build houses, shops, and other structures. Also, new dungeons and unique quests may be unlocked.

Thanks to **UE5’s incredible scalability**, Uldor features **large and diverse areas** giving players opportunities to go off on their own or in groups without running into crowded areas, giving special gameplay opportunities to those who enjoy **single-player and co-op style** games.&#x20;

### Dungeons

Throughout the open world, players will be able to enter instanced dungeons. Dungeons typically have 1 or more bosses with a variety of mobs to fight as you progress. Dungeon bosses may offer unique loot and achievements.

### World Bosses

Occasionally, areas of the world will be occupied by world bosses which players will be able to fight. Some world bosses may bring additional enemies with them to occupy and harass an area until they are dealt with. World bosses may offer unique loot and achievements but they may require a large group of players to work together to defeat.

# Our Mission

{% embed url="<https://165588264-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FgpTq0OeitzscdK2hvkiL%2Fuploads%2FTaDAHByunA2ejwzGHd0Y%2FExploreShortV3GIF.gif?alt=media&token=8c6ed181-eb3b-4258-9cfe-61bf0d739490>" %}

At Max Level Studios, our mission is to deliver high-quality, player-first experiences that push the boundaries of gaming. As passionate gamers ourselves, we believe the industry is ripe for disruption and in need of new ideas from innovative studios that don't accept the status quo.

Our core passion is for MMORPGs, a genre that brings players together in an immersive open world for shared experiences and character progression unmatched in gaming. As amazing as MMORPGs have been for gaming, they largely failed to innovate to keep up with changing player habits and new competition from casual and competitive games.

MMORPGs suffer from player fragmentation. Once players have leveled up, they find it hard to invite their friends to join them. New players often start doing mindless tasks or killing the most simple creatures and then have to grind those repetitive tasks for dozens, even hundreds of hours before being able to play with their friends.

Most MMOs have game modes that would appeal to casual and competitive gamers, such as a PvP arena, replayable dungeons, fishing minigames, and more, but these experiences are typically locked behind level progression - many at the game's max level.

Finally, MMORPGs are costly to build and building the full game before release can drag development years beyond the initial projections, leaving the community and potential players waiting until they eventually move on to something else.

We aim to disrupt the MMORPG genre by building something new.

Here's how we build better:

* **Ungated competitive play:** Our PvP Arena will be outside of the open world progression system, meaning players can join PvP from day one and not have to grind through the open world. This allows casual and competitive players to try Uldor to see if they enjoy it before investing hundreds of hours into the game. And there's no requirement to play the open world. Some players may spend all of their time in the PvP Arena. However, we believe our Faction PvP will draw players further into the immersive world.
* **Souls-like**: To differentiate Uldor from other MMORPGs, we draw inspiration from souls-like games with strategic combat, rich immersion, and intense bosses that are extremely rewarding to defeat, if you are skilled enough! MMOs have gotten too easy. Instead of rushing players through the open world to get to the competitive play, players will experience the open world at their own pace - immersing themselves in the world and the characters as they seek to forge their own path.
* **Enhanced ownership and transparency:** We believe blockchain can empower players with enhanced ownership, transparency, and provable scarcity. While early iterations have not gotten this right, we are confident in our approach and the value blockchain will add for players. When done right, players will have more confidence in and control over their assets.
* **Phased Development:** MMORPGs are ambitious projects. They are expensive and time-consuming. If successful, they can define a studio, but oftentimes times MMOs go far over budget or feel rushed. Our approach is to build vertical slices that we can iterate from to get to our final vision. This allows us to build a community around fully released games as well as our larger vision. We also gain valuable feedback from our players, regarding everything from network and backend scaling to class balancing. This strategy gives us a huge head start when we release our open world, with assurances of a smooth rollout and favorable reception.

We hope you join us. We plan to change the game.
